Translations

Translation structure

The current translation file has two layers:

  1. language profile entries such as EN_English and JP_Japanese
  2. translatable key groups under language.translate.key

Each language profile uses:

  • alias
  • id
  • actuall_lang

That data is what powers placeholders such as %fiomenu_lang_formatted% and %fiomenu_lang_id%.

Translation key usage

The source comments and examples are built around key references such as:

[gui.title]
[menu_with_4_lang.profile_name]
[switch_language.title]

Use this system when the same menu structure should stay the same while the displayed text changes per language.

What translations are for in FioMenu

At a high level, translation.yml is used to:

  • register selectable languages
  • map short language ids to display aliases
  • define menu text once and reuse it in several menus
  • let one menu structure serve multiple languages

Important note about the current source file

The provided translation.yml contains visible mojibake in some non-English text when read from the current source snapshot. The key structure is still valid and documentable, but if you plan to ship those language strings directly, review the file encoding in your project before publishing it to production.
